Restaurant of the Week
Sausal 219 Main St, El Segundo, CA 90245
Chef Anne Conness opened Sausal in 2015, bringing her "Nuevo Rancho Cuisine" to downtown El Segundo. Named after Ran Sausalcho Sausal Redondo (the vast farmstead that once encompassed El Segundo and most of the South Bay), this contemporary Mexican restaurant has become a neighborhood staple. Conness and co-owner Nancy Vrankovic also operate sister restaurant Mosa in Hermosa Beach.
The restaurant’s centerpiece is a wood-burning hearth oven, which provides the signature Sausal smoke and char to big-flavored dishes. Popular menu items: House-made Guacamole, Charred Corn Elote, Chicken Enchiladas, Street Tacos, Pork Chile Verde, and Shrimp Diablo.
They also have a separate Weekday Lunch Menu, Weekend Brunch, and Daily Happy Hour from 3-6pm (featuring discounted appetizers and $8 drinks)!

Local Spotlight
Blue Diamond Jewelers 245 Main Street, El Segundo, CA 90245 (also in Manhattan Beach, Long Beach, and Napa Valley)
Blue Diamond traces its founding back to 1974! Owner Altaf Amlani is a third-generation jeweler. Amlani brings 30+ years of experience, and he runs the business with a strong emphasis on relationships.
Our time at the El Segundo location was lovely. It’s not just a store; they encouraged us to explore and build something meaningful. Debbie helped us design our wedding bands; she was warm, personal, knowledgeable, and told us that if we can dream it, they can make it! She was great to work with.
Here’s what Blue Diamond is known for:
Custom designs
Jewelry restoration and sizing
Philanthropy: for every 1 engagement ring sold, they donate to 1 child for 1 year through the Nia Children’s Foundation (supports children’s education & meals in under-resourced schools)
Recognition as “Best Jeweler of the “Southland” by the LA Times multiple years in a row!

Sam’s Weather Report
This weekend was wild with rain — streets got soggy, drains got lazy, and umbrella users put on full Broadway-level performances — and the week ahead in the South Bay keeps the chaos going.
Monday drops more showers with random heavy bursts just to keep your anxiety sharp (high ~64°F), so skip the outdoor latte cosplay. Tuesday stays cool, cloudy, and misty (high ~62°F), perfect for asking yourself why you live in a beach town if the beach never appears. Wednesday offers “hope” in the form of partial sun (up to ~65°F), meaning you can plan a patio hang but keep a bailout plan. Thursday brings drizzle and that damp air that instantly ruins socks (around 64°F), so trust nothing. Friday warms up to ~69°F with sun and clouds, giving you just enough optimism to get burned again. And Saturday hits ~67°F with real sun, so you can finally grab the surfboard, the beach chair, or whatever outdoor hobby you pretend to do when the weather’s good.
