Restaurant of the Week

Baleen Kitchen 260 Portofino Way, Redondo Beach, CA 90277

On the waterfront at the Portofino Hotel, Baleen Kitchen is one of Redondo Beach’s most scenic dining spots. Surrounded by the boats in the harbor, Baleen is known for its New American cuisine with a seafood focus.

Baleen has been part of the South Bay’s culinary scene for more than a decade, sourcing many ingredients from local farmer’s markets. Its menu and ambiance have evolved over time to stay crowd-pleasing, and their latest renovations make it one of our favorite places for dinner.

The vibe is relaxed but refined; perfect for anything from sunset dinners to weekend brunch. The menu leans into seafood and comfort favorites with a twist, and changes often: think New England-style clam chowder, porkchop with cheesy grits, miso-glazed black cod, spicy tuna tacos, and fresh salads.

Handcrafted cocktails (and mocktails) are deliciously creative, with something for everyone…unless you want beer or wine :)

Local Spotlight

Ginger’s Ice Cream 225 Main St, El Segundo, CA 90245

Ginger’s Divine Ice Cream is a Main Street gem that delivers big flavor in charming yellow cups, gifting us the feeling of a small-town setting. This locally-beloved shop is known for its ultra-creamy texture and 42 handcrafted flavors (alongside the classics).

Fan favorites range from cookies & cream and butter pecan to more unique seasonal picks…such as campfire marshmallow, lavender honeycomb, and many dairy-free options. You can keep it simple with a waffle cone or go all in with a sundae topped with house-made sauces.

It’s the perfect stop after dinner or during a sunny El Segundo stroll…sweet, nostalgic, and undeniably satisfying.

There are locations in Culver City and Beverly Grove, too!

Sam’s Weather Report

Winter decided to briefly remember we exist. Monday comes in dramatic — heavy rain, wind, and the kind of forecast language that makes you check your patio furniture twice. The middle of the week stays moody with off-and-on rain, breezy afternoons, and highs hovering in the low 60s.

It’s not Midwest blizzard energy…but for the South Bay? This is cinematic.

Then, right on schedule, by Friday the sun starts peeking out like nothing happened. Saturday looks solid, and by Sunday we’re casually pushing back into the 70s again. So yes, we get a few stormy main-character days, but by the weekend it’s back to sunglasses, beach walks, and pretending we endured something significant.
